By spending a little time examining the internal and external factors that affect your business' health you can better gauge the present state of your business and identify things that may adversely affect your business' health in the future.


Think of a SWOT Analysis as a checkup for your business. - it' s a good idea for every business to perform a swot analysis on occasion, especially if you are doing strategic planning, contemplating a change in direction or formulating new strategies for distribution, marketing and sales. Qualified employees. - and any other aspect that adds value to your business and makes it stand out from the competition. If your business does something well just to keep up with the competition, it is not a strength. Strengths should always be gauged by the strengths of your competitors. It is a necessity. Weaknesses are those areas in which your company does not perform well or could stand improvement.


Weakness are the antitheses of strengths. - these are the areas of your business that make you susceptible to negative market forces and aggressive competitors. Employee problems. Weaknesses might include: poor management. Lack of marketing and sales expertise. Bad location. Lack of capital.


Poor products or services. - etc. Damaged reputation. Opportunities are those things that have the potential to make your business stronger, and more profitable, more enduring. Possible mergers, or strategic alliances, acquisitions. Opportunities might include: new markets becoming available or old markets that are expanding.


A competitor going out of business or leaving the marketplace, making their customers open to you. - threats are those things that have the potential to adversely affect your business. And the potential availability of a desired employee. Threats might include: changing marketplace conditions. Cash flow problems. Rising company debt. A strong competitor entering your market.


Possible laws or taxes that may negatively impact your profits. - competitors with lower prices. And strategic partners going out of business. For example, once you have identified your strengths you can better use them to determine which opportunities to pursue and to help reduce your vulnerability to potential threats. Once you have filled in all four quadrants, you can use this information to create strategies that will help you make the best of the information learned. Now that you know your weaknesses you can formulate strategies to overcome them so you can pursue opportunities. Whether you use a consultant or create a SWOT Analysis on your own it is important to remember that a SWOT Analysis is a subjective analysis tool that can be strongly influenced by the opinions of those performing the analysis.


Knowing your weaknesses can also help you establish a defensive plan to prevent your weaknesses from making your business particularly susceptible to external threats. - for small businesses especially it is imperative to keep the analysis simple and to the point. You may question, why you would even want this type of tax treament? - owners or members, as they are usually called, of an llc have the choice to elect how the llc will be treated for tax purposes. In the past, the Internal Revenue Service( IRS) classified business entities as either partnerships or corporations based on four different factors. However, this was not always the case. The four factors included: (1) Limited liability; (2) Centralized management; (3) Continuity of life. A business entity would be taxed as a partnership if it possessed two of the four characteristics. And( 4) Free transferability of interest.


It would likely be taxed as a corporaiton if it possessed three of the four characteristics. - then in 1997, new irs regulations came into effect which allowed business entities like llcs to elect the tax treatment they desired. This led to a lot of confusion and uncertainty for business owners. These regulations became known as the" check - the - box" regulations. It will allow a business operated as an LLC to enjoy all of the beneficial characteristics of a corporation but still be taxed as partnership or, it provides for, in the alternative an LLC to elect corporation tax status and then make the S corporation election. Since both the S corporation and the LLC provide limited liability protection to the shareholders or members, an LLC which elects tax treatment similar to the S corporation, may be an attractive option to discuss with your accountant or tax advisor. Not only can you operate the LLC under less stringent requirements than the corporate form, you still get limited liability protection, with a few, basic partnership taxation exceptions, the chance to reduce FICA taxes for the members of the LLC and operation of the LLC under less formal rules than with corporations.

The NMSN is a federal form that all state child support enforcement agencies must use.


The NMSM is a standardized form that advises you when your employee has been ordered to provide health insurance coverage for a child through your company' s health plan. - if an order has been issued and health coverage is available through the employer, the child must be enrolled by the plan administrator. The NMSN meets all ERISA requirements under section 609( a) (3) & (4) and is in fact a Qualified Medical Child Support Order. The standardized NMSN does have some advantages for the employer: It provides uniform documents so the employer does not have to learn 50 different forms and ways of doing the same thing. It satisfies state law for withholding employee contributions for the child' s health care coverage. The NMSN states the duration of the medical support withholding and should have the name and address of a contact at the CSEA.


It also sets up the priorities for withholding when withholding is inadequate to cover child support and a NMSN. - the nmsa consists of four documents. The following five steps are a summary of what the employer is responsible to do under the NMSA without compensation for his time or trouble. Part A, " Notice to Withhold for Health Care Coverage" Part B, Medical Support Notice to Plan Administrator" Responses to Both Notices. Step One: Determine if the NMSN really applies to you or an employee of yours under the four listed categories. Step Five: If enrollment for the child cannot be completed until a future date or until some other action takes place you need notify the Plan Administrator when the employee will be eligible to enroll. You should also notify the CSEA of the time frame involved.
